In addition, the use of software like ChatGPT, a powerful AI engine that enables users to interact with technology in a conversational manner making it accessible to a wider audience, can also help HR professionals in many areas outside of a formal HR Technology system. ChatGPT, Claude and other applications can create job descriptions, interview questions, enhance interview preparation and can create performance appraisal questions and performance improvement plans. From a candidate point of view AI can help with notifications of jobs matching a profile, résumé comparison to job description and interview prep and mock interviews.

A question from a recent webinar I gave highlights just how much people are thinking about the use of AI.
In a recent presentation, I discussed some AI tools that are available to both candidates and recruiters. Many of the tools work to improve the match of keywords between a job description and a résumé in the pursuit of a higher grade or score for that candidate. The expectation is that a higher score translates to a better chance of interview. One of the interesting questions asked was, “Does a better score mean that the recruiter will be more likely to think that you had used AI in order to achieve that score?” While an interesting dilemma, the pursuit of a higher score is part of the rules of engagement for applicant tracking systems. The other option would be to leave your score low and potentially not get interviewed either. The question highlights just how much people are thinking about the use of AI.
As Human Resources professionals, we need to be informed about the state of artificial intelligence and its impact on the technologies that we, and our candidates and employees, use.
AI is only as smart as the data that it reviews and the ability of the user to ask the right detailed questions.
